VOLUME 11 – NUMBER 508

Making pizzas with Mungia family

The Mungia family came over and we made pizza with them. It was different from our pizza. The dough and the salsa was different, but they tasted so good!

One pizza we made had mushrooms and ham and pepperonis, and there were lots of other toppings. We made one pizza with every toping on it! I had seven slices of pizza! The slices were a little smaller than our normal slices.

On Father’s Day, London came over, and we had delicious curry with rice that she made. It was heavenly! It was savory with every bite. Happy Father’s Day!

This week was another rough one for me, but things seem to be getting a little better in the pregnancy. I’ve been nauseous and sick all day everyday and am on two different medications.

I still try to get out when I can, and this week we made it up to West Jordan. We were able to play with family at home and go to the Smith children birthday party for Emma, McKay, and Brigham.

I had fun swimming around with Emma, and Cougar was even more popular than the water slide, the way he was throwing all the kids around!

After my job interview at BYU, I held off on following up for a couple weeks, since the director had shoulder surgery, but this week I officially got the job!

I’ll be teaching two sections, starting in September. I hope they will let me have three sections for Winter semester, because that will be easier on us financially, but two should be enough for us to survive on combined BYU and MyPack pay, even though things might be a little tight until I can get MyPack to the next level.

I am very grateful to Heavenly Father for helping us find a way to increase our income over time, and a way to avoid spending nearly 12 hours each day at work or on the road.

I am confident that He will help us succeed, even if He allows us to struggle for a little while at first. In the end, I believe we will look back and realize how much better off we are for making this exciting, but slightly scary new change.

I’ve been wanting to do proxy sealings in the temple for a while now. I have been several times before, and it hasn’t always been a pleasant experience as a single person, so I stopped doing them, but recently, I’ve been feeling like I should go back, since I have a lot of sealing ordinances reserved for my ancestors, and I want to be able to help them.

Hannah came with me, and it was a little awkward since they had to go find random temple workers to participate with us, but once we were doing the ordinances it was actually a very uplifting experience.

I realized that it really wasn’t about me at all, and I was grateful to be able to help those individuals receive the incredible blessings of being sealed together with their families.

I’m grateful for my Savior and that he has blessed me with temples as a way of being close to him and making promises with him.

For Father’s Day, I of course offered to make Dad whatever meal he wanted. Not surprisingly, he just wanted to be surprised with something new. I decided to make Tikka Masala with garlic naan, and I think it turned out pretty amazing! I love going home and being able to cook for more people than just myself.

This week I went to watch Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse with Monte and Ashton. I won't spoil anything for anyone that hasn't seen it, but it is a really good movie. It's funny, and it has a great storyline, and it kept me keeping wondering what was going to happen next.

I also watched it a second time with the whole family, and I am going to plan on taking Mom to watch it, because she wasn't able to watch it with the family because she had work.

Caleb at Shaiel’s baptism

On Sunday Shaiel got baptized! He was so happy, and he has a lot of desires to learn more!

We got transfer news. I'll be staying in Los Sauces and will be training a new missionary that I'll meet in Concepción on Friday! I'm excited to have another opportunity to train.

It's crazy because I've already been in Los Sauces for almost seven months! It doesn't feel nearly that long, but if I stay here to finish the training, it'll be about 10 months in this small town!

I've seen a ton of miracles in myself, the people I've helped, and all over the place. I know I'll see more growth in me and in my surroundings. I'll also continue as a district leader, which honestly, I really love.

Elder Angilau was an amazing companion and has now finished his mission and is heading back to South Jordan. A fun fact that I don't think I ever mentioned, but his cousin’s son, Iam Tongi, just won the 2023 American Idol!

Caleb and Elder Angilau

This was the third time that I have seen Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse, and yet again it is still amazing! Every time it just gets better and better, and I have begun to love the soundtrack. It's not as good as the first movie, but it's got some pretty good music.

This time Braden was there, and it was super cool just talking about what made it such a good movie. It's also cool because Braden will periodically send me things about the movie that still make it so much better. Hope y'all have a good rest of your week!

Herbert and Quinn making pizza

We went to go watch the new Spider-Man movie in theaters and I really liked it. It was so cool, and it ended on a cliffhanger. I just want to know what happens next, but we have to wait another year.

Mom’s work had a activity, and it was for the girls. It was a pedicure. It was pretty fun. I got my nails done and they also had three jars full of candy. We had to guess how many pieces were in the jars and me and Gloria got the closest to guessing the actual amount, so we got the jar of candy, and also a gift card as a prize.

The Mungia‘s also came over and we made pizzas, and they were delicious. I like spending time with the Mungia‘s.

We watched Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters this week as a family I loved the movie. The people that came was everyone at home plus Braden and Ashton. The movie sent chills up my spine. It was soooo good!

Making pizza with the Mungias

Lots of little things this week kept it pretty busy. I love having weeks like this. Monday morning London and I went to hike Slate Canyon. I always have mixed feelings about hikes, but London convinced me and it was an awesome way to start the week.

Later that day I got a text from Rob, my old boss, to see if I could come visit with him that day. Monday's are normally my day off, but I made my way up to the MTC. When I got there, he was pretty serious, like he had just finished a tough conversation or something. He's normally a bit more jovial.

He invited me into his office, and he asked if I knew why I was there. I told him I assumed it was to hear back about the full-time position I had applied for. He asked a couple other questions, but was still pretty serious.

Previously, I told London that if I didn't get it, I knew exactly how the conversation was going to go. He would call me and say something like, "Unfortunately we offered the position to someone else, but thank you for applying, and if you want to chat about specifics of the interviews I would love to give you some feedback."

So when I was visiting with him that day he asked, "So how many full-time positions have you applied for now?" I told him I had applied three times. He then paused and said, "Well, unfortunately...you won't have to apply for another one, since we'd like to offer you the position!"

Then he started laughing and smiling and so did I! It was a great memory and really unexpected way to find out I got the job. I'm excited to get to work closely with him again!

Goodbye gifts for Ashton’s teachers

The rest of the week included Nerf wars at home, a blind date on Wednesday with someone a mission friend of mine set me up with, another watching of the new Spiderman, and the beginning of our Lord of the Rings marathon that Braden was organizing since many of us haven't seen them in a while or at all.

Sadly, this week was my last week with my area at work. We had a goodbye training meeting on Friday and I am going to miss them tons! This has easily been the best semester of supervising I have had.

My teachers are so great and I've worked with so many of them as new teachers that it has been really special. I'm sad to leave them but excited about starting my new full-time position next week!

Ashton with his MTC teachers

On Tuesday, we went to the theater as a family and watched the new Spiderman movie, and I understood it a little bit more this time.

For our youth activity this week we had a water ballon fight and that was fun. I also got to hangout with Riley at his house.

On Saturday Mom, Veidi, and I went to a mani pedi up in Sugarhouse. Veidi and I learned about what some makeup does. Then we got our nails done and we both won gift cards because we won the raffle.

Later that night, we had the Mungia's came over and they taught us some new ways to make pizza. I loved the sauce that they helped us make, and we had a lot of leftovers!
