VOLUME 11 – NUMBER 522

Veidi, Gloria, and Quinn at Weezer concert

This was a pretty crazy week. We got to attend a Weezer concert! It was super cool. To be honest, I had very little knowledge of who Weezer was, until I heard some of the songs they sang. It was an absolute blast, and a super-good first concert experience.

Then on Sunday, we he had our third hour of church, where we role played a story Dad wrote several years ago called Winnie & Lucy and the Baizelbub Virus. I was cast as the mother in the story. I just decided to have fun with it, and be as funny and outgoing as possible. It was super fun, and enjoyable, and there were quite a few laughs.

This week we went to a Weezer concert. I had never been to a concert before. I enjoyed the music they played and I sang along to the songs I already knew. I loved seeing Quinn dancing around like no one was watching him. It was super cool and really loud. And also being there brought back some memories of when we used to work at Vivant.

On Sunday, Monte, Isaac, Kai, Veidi, and me had to act out Winnie and Lucy and the Baizelbub Virus. I loved doing it because it got me out of my comfort zone and I was not scared to do it.

I have also been going early morning driving with Mom. She gave me a little therapy session and it helped me to drive a lot better that time than other times before.

I started a project a while ago, something I have been wanting to do since I was a teenager. I want to write children’s books, and I want the stories to come from family history. I started my first book over a year ago, writing about Grandma Artie’s childhood.

This week, I sat down and got a lot done. I finished the next draft of the text for Part 2 and sent it over to Mom to edit. I now need to start working on some illustrations and the final text revision so that I can add it to the first part that I finished almost a year ago. I am planning on this book having three total parts!

This week was difficult because we were in our house for a good chunk of time because of my knee, and my companion getting phenomena. But it was pretty tough spending so much time, 10 days of so, in our apartment.

I think diligence was my focus. When I could get outside we would, but then my leg would be pretty bad in the night and bad the next day. It was a difficult balance trying to get back to work and getting enough rest so that I wouldn't just get injured again.

I'm still kinda dealing with it but in this moment I'm doing good. Yesterday we got to spend the whole afternoon just workin, after spending the morning doing physical therapy in Los Angeles. We got in some houses and did some teaching. Just being outside was amazing.

I don't think it's anything grave at all. It's just something really frustrating when you’re a missionary and you literally walk everywhere, which keeps my leg from healing.

I'm doing good though. It's a tough twist to what I would hope, but I known I've got so much to learn from it.

My companions great. I had my birthday! And I'm trying to give my all in every second!

This week when Dad finished setting up the dog food closet, I asked Mom if we could invite some friends over to play laser tag. She said yes, and so we scrambled. We started to charge the batteries for the guns while Monte went to the store to get treats.

There was a fair amount of people that came— Sophie Zimmerman, Jack Haymond, the Grappendorfs, and us. Together there were about 10 or 11 of us. It was really fun, and I think everyone enjoyed it. The party started at 7:00pm, and then ended at about 10:30pm. It was really fun for me, and we will definitely do it some more.

For our third hour of church, Mom and Dad had me, Gloria, Kai, Monte, and Isaac act out the Baizelbub Virus. I was Winnie, Gloria was Lucy, Kai was the doctor, Isaac was the the virus, and Monte was the Mom. It was super funny seeing Monte act like the mom. We put him in a dress and put a wig on him. It was super funny. I really enjoyed it.

We covered our bike shed with a tarp, so that rain doesn't rust them. It was actually pretty simple and quick to figure out. It only took us about a half an hour to do it. It feels good knowing that my new bike that I love won't rust in the rain.

After covering the shed, Isaac, Veidi, and I cooked up some spaghetti/stroganoff for lunch, and it was pretty good.

I know that Jesus lives, and that he is the one and true God, and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know that he saw Jesus and Heavenly Father in the grove. I know that we will live eternally happy if we follow Jesus Christ.

On Friday, Selvin hosted a dinner at a park with some of the family and his co-workers. Most of my time was spent being the lava monster on the playground with all the little kids! The birria was sooo good!

Then on Saturday, I watched BYU lose to Kansas, which was a little bit of a bummer, but it’s all good. Then on Sunday we had dinner up at the family’s house. Since my church starts at 3:00pm, I had to leave a little early, but it was good to see everyone again!

Brooke holding sick Charlie

It feels like we're finally moved in to our new apartment, and this place is starting to feel more and more like home. Ellie has her first big-girl bed, and she and Charlie are in their own rooms. Just as soon as things started to settle a little bit, the whole family took turns getting sick.

Charlie woke up this week with a fever and ended up throwing up once on Brooke, and then on me a couple hours later. That sickness ended up going through all of us over the next week and a half. Eventually we ended up getting better, but it seemed like it took forever!

September 22nd, mid-day

One of the traditions we have as a family is to get Chick-fil-A every September 22 at noon. This comes from the movie Evan Almighty. In the movie, Evan has been commanded to build an ark and Morgan Freeman—playing God—appears on the TV to say that the flood is coming on "September 22nd mid-day." Evan yells at the TV and asks "is that when it's going to happen?! September 22nd, mid-day?!" His family is very confused so Evan tries to cover it up by asking his wife if they can have some more chicken on September 22nd, mid-day.

There you have it, the reason behind why we have decided that we'd get chicken for lunch every year on that day.
