VOLUME 12 – NUMBER 580

Family in Halloween costumes

Halloween was the best! Me, Mom, Joanna, and Troy went trick or treating, and we ran into Veidi and her friends a couple of times.

When we went home, we watched Monster House with everybody except Isaac and Veidi, because Isaac was working, and Veidi was with her friends. Monster House was such a good movie that even Dad thought it should be a Halloween tradition.

Then Veidi came home and asked to watch Hocus Pocus with her friends, because they had all dressed up like the witches from that movie.

Joanna

This week is Halloween. I wanted to be a witch, and Mom got me a witch costume. It was itchy. Then we went trick or treating, and I got treat, a plane, and Oreos, but then everybody ate them.

When I got back, I ate everybody else's candy or at least some of it. Then I ate dinner while watching Monster House, but it was too scary for me, so I watched Bluey.

I finally got started on doing lead at Costa Vida! I wasn't technically supposed to do it, but I did, and I'm so glad that I did, because now I know how to do it. It's pretty easy once I got the hang of it.

I was also able to do online order's lead and close the drive through, which is the section of the store where we make the meals for people in the drive-thru, and people that come through to pick up their mobile orders.

I ended up with a total of 21 hours by the end of the week, so hopefully I get a nice hefty paycheck.

I worked this week at Costa Vida on Halloween, so I went in with an Avocado jumpsuit for my Halloween costume. It was really funny. It was also really nice because it was really slow, so most of the night was really nice.

I closed drinks, which means I basically clean all the specialty drinks that we make, like the limonada, horchata, and the strawberry limonada. It’s pretty easy. You just have to empty the rest of the drinks into a container, and then clean the containers and the dispenser.

After I closed the drinks, I got to go home, and when I got home there was a lot of candy, and when I say a lot, I mean a lot! They were watching Monster House, so I watched the rest of it while I snacked on some candy.

Cougar, Owen, Endia on Halloween

I had a great time with Endia, Cougar, Owen, and Dorothy this week. On Wednesday, Endia’s ward had a Halloween party and we went. It was really fun. I did not dress up, but Endia was a farmer, and Owen was a little pumpkin. They were so cute!

They did a trunk or treat and ours was a pumpkin patch, so a couple of hours before we left, Endia decided to paint pumpkins onto some boards. I painted the pumpkins while she was working on the other board.

On Halloween, Mom came and picked me up because I had planned to go trick-or-treating with Taylor Danielson and Eisley Horner. We dressed as the three witches from the movie Hocus Pocus. I was Mary, Taylor was Winifred, and Eisley was Sarah.

Mom helped me do my hair. When she was finished, it looked so good! I waited till it was about 6:00pm. Mom was taking the Littles trick-or-treating, so she walked me up to Taylor's house where we were going to meet. After Taylor and I picked up Eisley we went around to a lot of houses and got candy.

We also ran into Mom and the Littles a few times. About an hour in, Taylor and Eisley said we should go to the “Scary Circle.” I had no idea what that was, so I said, “Sure! We can go.” It was where a bunch of houses went all out on Halloween decorations. It was so fun and terrifying at the same time.

We went to this one house where it was a walk through the garage full of a lot of dolls. I am terrified of dolls, so I was so scared. Taylor and Eisley made me go three times, and it was scarier each time because each time I would look around and see something scary. I would scream, and then they would also scream! I am glad I did it because even though it was scary, it was really fun being with my friends.

After we did some more trick-or-treating, we went to Taylor's house and sorted out our candy. There was so much! Then Gloria and Riley showed up and they also sorted their candy.

Then Caleb came and picked me up, we went home, and I had the best pigs in a blanket ever! Dad made them, and they were so delicious. We watched Monster House, and then we played Switch with Caleb.

It was a really fun week, I am grateful that I have friends to go and do fun things with.

I have now figured out what my costume was. First of all, I was going to be a SWAT guy because I was going to get a Gel Blaster gun, and I needed a helmet and protection anyway.

When I got my costume in the mail, I was pretty excited, but then I was told that I got the exact same mask as Kai, which he got for his birthday, I had no idea that I had.

We then went trick or treating, and we got loads of treats. At the end, Me, Quinn, and Joanna had three gallons worth of treats. Veidi got back with her friends, and she had two gallons of treats. Then Gloria got back with one gallon of treats. We knew how much because we had six one-gallon ziploc bags by the end of Halloween.

On Monday I went rock climbing with London and Keaton. When we got to Momentum, it was super cool seeing the different types of climbs. I did a few climbs, but it made me sore for a few days. For dinner they made the best fried rice I have ever had!

For Halloween, I went to my work for a party. It was good seeing all the residents in costumes. Later that night I went to Herriman with Riley, Tray, and Ian. We went around the neighborhoods there for about two hours, hoping for the really big candy treats!

As I'm getting used to work and I'm making connections with my co-workers and residents, it's helping me to be more confident in what I do. I've been doing my halls mostly by myself without a trainer. I learned a lot in just two weeks!

I really do enjoy what I do. I worked 12 hours this week, and I love getting to know every single resident. I have one resident named Nancy, and she is the sweetest person I know in B-Hall.

As I was ending my shift on Saturday night, she was telling me the good things I have done with her. She asked me if I could be her permanent CNA. She was telling me how I'm her favorite—super nice, gentle, kind—and that I'm her angel sent from heaven.

She made me cry, and I made her cry as well when she saw me tearing up. I've gotten really connected with Nancy because she told me that she loves me, and that I'm her angel, and a light to her.

This was a pretty significant week for me. On Monday, I went and got my cavity filled, which means that I am finished with all of the medical documentation for my mission papers.

I also got my photo taken for my papers, and that was pretty much all that was left. I have officially submitted my mission papers now, and it's kind of just a waiting game, with a few friendly reminders to help people get things moved along.

In sacrament meeting, I was sustained to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood, which will probably happen next Sunday. Everything is moving forward at a rapid pace, and it's exciting.

I can't wait to be able to serve the Lord for two years, and bring people to the true and amazing gospel of Jesus Christ.

This week we went on another offsite for work. This time it was just Rob’s team, but it was great. Me and one of the managers, Jesse, gave a training where we surprised everyone by ending up in stormtrooper suits halfway through!

Later that night I went with some friends to the Utah Jazz game to support my old roommate, TJ. He and his brand are the official brand for a clothing line that sponsors the Jazz. The game was not great, but it was so fun.

We ended up running a whole lap around the top floor of the arena to try and win some tickets. It was a challenge that was given, but turns out we never found the person with the tickets because we ran the 6th floor and they were on the 5th. Exhausting, but a good memory!

I didn’t really do much on Halloween other than go look at some costumes on campus with some co-workers. Later that night I played in the last intramural game of my basketball season. Next up is the tournament.

I also took a midterm this week as well, and got out in a spelling bee we had at work. It was a fun week!

Ellie has been so excited for Halloween. We decided to take the girls to my parents’ neighborhood, because we heard that they gave out better candy, and Braden and I are all about collecting our parent tax from the kids stash—ha ha!

Both girls were supposed to be butterflies, but for some reason, Charlie disliked her costume and refused to wear it. Luckily we had her cow costume from last year, which she loves, so she happily wore that one. It kept her pretty warm too, so I guess that was a win-win.

We took the girls out and Ellie was pretty hesitant to go up to people and say, “trick or treat.” We had to have her practice saying it loud and she got more comfortable as time went on. Charlie was fearless and would just run up to people cause she wanted her candy!

By the end of the night, Charlie was tired of walking and Ellie was cold, so things wrapped up with perfect timing. They ended up with a big stash and at least five king sized candy bars each.

It was so fun to take the girls trick or treating and I can’t believe we are at the stage where both my kids can go! It doesn’t feel like too long ago that I was a little kid dressing up and going out and now I am a parent taking my kids. Time flies!
